The 2002 Harley-Davidson XL-1200C Sportster has not changed much since its 1996 debut. Custom versions of the Sportster arrived for 1996 as a way of adding big-Harley styling to the middleweight line.
While the powertrain and basic chassis are shared with "standard" Sportsters, Custom models feature a cast 16-inch rear wheel, spoke 21-inch front wheel, drag-style handlebars on chrome risers, and forward-mounted foot controls. A low-mounted speedometer and chrome teardrop headlight sans traditional Sportster "eyebrow" complete the look.

Initially, Customs came only in 1200-cc form; in 1999, an 883-cc version was added, but only the 1200 offers optional two-tone paint.
