Porsche 914 Pictures and Specifications Overview

The Porsche 914 had a midengine design for good inherent weight balance.

The Porsche 914 was among the most controversial Porsches because, while it was designed by Porsche, it used some Volkswagen parts, including the 1.7-liter flat-four engine. Critics dubbed it the "VW Porsche 914." It came to the U.S. for 1970 with Porsche badges and a $3,495 price tag. Later that year, Porsche substituted the 110-horsepower 2.0-liter flat-six from the contemporary 911T to produce the $5,995 914/6, which boasted much livelier performance, a fortified suspension, and more deluxe interior.

The pages that follow feature pictures and specifications that trace the evolution of this car from the early to mid-1970s.
