According to Mitsubishi, "it's go time" in the product department. The Japanese automaker unveiled the new 2009 Lancer Ralliart and Concept-RA at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

Mitsubishi is taking aim at Subaru's WRX with the newest addition to its lineup. Joining the redesigned-for-2008 Lancer and Lancer Evolution is the sporty Ralliart model. According to Mitsubishi, Ralliart melds "sizzle and substance."

Power is distributed to all four wheels by Evo's turbocharged 235-horsepower 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and a six speed automatic with manual shift mode and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Ralliart distinguishes itself from the Lancer pack with an aggressive-looking front bumper and grille, triple-ducted aluminum hood, and rear air dam. Interior Ralliart-specific features include Recaro sport seats and a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate nine-speaker audio system.

The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart goes on sale this summer.

Is a redesigned Eclipse on the way? Mitsubishi pulled the cover off of the Concept-RA at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, a coupe whose silhouette bore a familiar resemblance to Mitsubishi's current Eclipse.

Concept-RA, short for Road Alive, seats two and opens via mechanical butterfly doors. Under RA's matte black hood is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine that Mitsubishi claims achieves 40-plus miles per gallon.

Concept-RA is built on a light-weight aluminum frame and gets its fast, aggressive look from its wide stance, flared fenders, matte black side air extractors, and slant-nose grille. Titanium trim accents the concept's interior.

There's no word yet on whether Mitsubishi will take Concept-RA beyond this design exercise.
