1978 NASCAR Winston Cup Results

For the 1978 NASCAR Winston Cup season, the competition was closer and the grandstands were filled to capacity. On television, ratings for NASCAR were climbing steadily as ABC Sports prepared for its fifth consecutive live telecast of the Daytona 500. Perhaps the most memorable race of the 1978 NASCAR campaign took place on August 6 at the Talladega 500. Lennie Pond and Benny Parsons changed leads 67 times during the hotly contested 188-lap event. Since then, Talladega has been the scene of many highly competitive events. Roland Wlodyka spins his #98 Chevrolet, collecting #5 Neil Bonnett, #54 Lennie Pond, and #11 Cale Yarborough, in the April 2nd Southeastern 500 at Bristol International Raceway. The crash took out Wlodyka and Bonnett, but Yarborough and Pond were able to continue. Cale finished fourth, while Pond placed fifth with relief help from Richard Petty. See more pictures of NASCAR.
