In the middle of the 1957 NASCAR Grand National season, the directors of the Automobile Manufacturers Association unanimously recommended that the industry take no part in automobile races that emphasize speed and power. This resolution had a great impact on NASCAR Grand National drivers, who still had the equipment but had to find the resources to finish out the season.
