NASCAR Results

What is today known as the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series has gone under several different names during its long history. It debuted in 1949 as the NASCAR Strictly Stock division, switching the following year to the NASCAR Grand National series. It became the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National in 1971, and dropping the "Grand National" in 1986 made it simply the NASCAR Winston Cup. A change of sponsorship In 2004 resulted in the current NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series moniker, and a re-branding will change the tournament's name to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning in 2008.
