2007 Hummer H2 Review
A rearview camera is newly optional for 2007 on this military-styled SUV from General Motors' Hummer brand. H2 comes as a 4-dr wagon and as the pickuplike SUT. Both borrow their 325-hp V8, 4-speed automatic transmission, and many chassis components from GM's 2000-2006-generation large SUVs. The wagon seats five and is available with a one-passenger 3rd-row seat to increase capacity to six. The SUT seats five and replaces the wagon's enclosed cargo bay with a 3-ft-long cargo bed. A midgate with power-down window separates the SUT's bed from the cabin; it folds with the rear seat to extend bed length to 6 ft. H2s have all-wheel drive with low-range gearing and a locking rear differential. ABS, OnStar assistance, and heated leather seats are standard. Side airbags are unavailable.
Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Typically based on mainstream Large SUVs, Premium Large SUVs are super-sized luxury liners. All are powerful, pricey, and extremely thirsty at the pump.

Our Best Buy is the Cadillac Escalade. Our Recommended picks are the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.
News
Redesigned H2s are now expected for 2010, two years later than earlier reported, but will still move to GM's latest "T900" large-truck architecture. Today's H2 uses the T800 platform now phasing out among GM's biggest pickups and mainstream SUVs. Sources say the replacements will be somewhat smaller, lighter, and presumably more fuel-efficient, which we hope is not just wishful thinking.
