Chrysler New York Hardtops & Convertible were the best standard
Chryslers from one of the worst periods in Chrysler Corporation
Wheelbase again measured 126 inches, but all-new "Unibody" construction and somewhat more dynamic styling were touted for 1960. The latter, marked by a big inverted-trapezoid grille and canted fins with wedgy tail lamps, was shared by that year's high-performance 300-F, which couldn't have hurt New Yorker sales as much as the optional dummy spare-tire outline for deck lids, a needless "classic" fillip often called the "toilet seat."

The frontal trapezoid was flipped over for the somewhat more angular '61s, allowing for canted quad headlights, and fins were abruptly shaved off for '62 (Exner later called the result "plucked chickens").
The New Yorker also lost its convertible and hardtop coupe to a new non-letter 300 series (covered elsewhere). Pushbutton TorqueFlite automatic mated to wedge-head 413 V-8s throughout, with the '62 engine was detuned 10 horses for economy reasons. Also shared by all these Chryslers was the striking "Astra-Dome" semispherical gauge cluster with then-pioneering indirect lighting.
Still not the most desirable of Chryslers, but pleasant, affordable cars that are now attracting some long-overdue collector interest.
