The 1955-1965 Bentley S-Type Continental was a continuation of the sporting special-bodied Bentleys aimed at the gentleman-enthusiast, but on the more modern S-Type/Silver Cloud chassis.
As with the preceding R-Type models, custom light-alloy bodies were available mainly from H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward. Two-door coupes accounted for most of the very limited S-Type Continental production, but a few convertibles were built along with a new four-door sedan dubbed "Flying Spur."
Mechanical and appearance changes were the same as for concurrent S-Type sedans, including adoption of the new Rolls-Royce V-8 for Series II models and the "mod" quad-headlamp front end for the Series III.
Virtually all Continentals in this period had the R-R/GM Hydra-Matic transmission, which allowed a top speed in the area of 100-115 mph. Conspicuously absent from the specification was disc brakes.
